NEW DELHI (PTD: Firing, arson and militant attacks claimed at least 77 lives across the Kashmir valley in the week gone by, including 65 in so pore town.

In one of the worst ever incidents in the valley, 65 people were killed and scores injured onJan.6 in north So pore town following a clash between militants and security forces.

Darning an exchange of fire between militants and secant forces at so pore a fire broke out in an ammunition dump, which later spread to the adjoining areas, where about 100 shops and houses were gutted.

An inquiry has been ordered by the state government into incident. Baramalla town was brought under curfew as a precautionary measure. Property worth millions of rupees was destroyed in the fire in so pore. In other incidents, two persons including a second commander of Al Jehad militant outfit were killed and eight militants arrested elsewhere in the valley.

On Jan.8 the strike against incidents in so pore hit normal life in the Kashmir valley and three persons were killed and 17 suspected subversives held in the valley.

Security forces killed self-styled area commander of a militant outfit in Kashmir valley on Jan.9.

A three member ministerial team, deputed by the prime minister, P.V.Narasimha Rao, visited fire ravaged so pore for an on the Spot assessment of the situation.

On Jan.10 the day curfew, imposed on so pore and Baramulla towns was lifted.

Meanwhile, Srinagar and several parts of the valley were lashed by heavy snowfall resulting in disruption of nominal life.

On Jan.1] three persons were killed and a bank was looted in the Kashmir valley.
