Chavan was asked why the Center had adopted two different attitudes on the arrest of Mannand the attack on Madhavra Scindia. The newsmen who had asked this question wanted to know why the Center had not protested to the West Bengal Government on the arrest of Manal Bannesji while it had instituted an inquiry into the incident of the attack on Scindia. The Union Home Minister’s reply was that was the prerogative of the prime minister. “I will therefore want [0 express my opinion on it,” he said.

Answering a query on the outbreak of riots in Maharashtra and Gujarat, he said that he had discussed it with them but would not like to make any Statement either way. He did not agree with a questioner that illegal immigrants from Bangladesh had hand in the recent community notes.
