A Jewish postal worker Howard Singer won a ruling from Federal Employment Opportunity Commission holding up his right to wear a traditional religious skullcap on the job. This ruling is based upon the civil rights laws which prohibit religious discrimination. This ruling will govern similar cases in the future involving religious rights. Attomey Mohinder S.Mann of San Jose says “any Sikhs discriminated by government agencies for wearing a turban should use this ruling to overturn their employer’s decision.”
Mann says there are many Sikhs working in the postal services and they should feel comfortable in challenging any regulations impeding their right to wear a turban. If any one feels discriminated because of their religious beliefs they should contact the EEOC.
