FATEH GARH SAHIB, Punjab, India: Prof. Darshan Singh announced here that he had resigned from the position of Acting Jathedar of Akal Takht so that he could be free to participate in the struggle to be launched with ‘other Sikh religions leaders to seek justice for the Sikhs. The Sikh
leaders at a meeting held here on November 17, under the Chairman ship of Prof. Darshan Singh, also served an ultimatum to the Central government that if the demands of the Sikhs were not accepted by December 2, they would launch a peaceful movement to get justice and start a peaceful march from Fatehgarh Sahib to Delhi on December 4 under the leadership of Prof. Darshan Singh. Eleven Sikhs would sit on indefinite dharna before the Parliament from Dec. 5 for the acceptance of the demands. Prof, Darshan Singh announced his resignation at the fag-end of the meeting while addressing the leaders.
The meeting was held at the hall adjoining the rest house of Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib. About forty religious leaders according to Manjit Singh Tarn Tarani, a former Secretary of the Akali Dal took part in The Panthic Committee, however, described Prof. Darshan
Singh’s decision to resign as a victory for the freedom fighters but said that his action plan of holding a dharna in Delhi was a political stunt aimed at his rehabilitation.
