CHANDIGARH India: Repeating its June performance in the State Assembly elections, the ruling Lok Dal (B) BJP. Alliance in Haryana made a clean Sweep of Fatehabad, Jundla (reserved) and Karnal Assembly seats, polling for which was held yesterday.
In the Fatehabad constituency, Mr. Balbir Singh (BJP) g0t43, 479 Votes against 14,864 votes secured by his nearest CPM rival Mr. Pirthivi Singh in an 18cornered contest.
Mr. Lila Kishan (Cong. 1) who was seeking reelection finished as poor third with 9679 votes and lost his security deposit. All the remaining 15 Independent contestants in the electoral fray also forfeited their securities,
‘The Lok Dal((B) candidate, Mr. Risal Singh, was declared elected from the Jundla (Reserve) Assembly constituency defeating his nearest Congress (I) rival Mr. Puran Singh by a margin of 35146 votes.
Mr. Risal Singh polled 45088 votes as against 9942 votes polled by Mr. Puran Singh.
In Karnal constituency, Mr. Lachhman Dass (BJP) secured 32151 votes while his nearest Congress (I) rival, Mr. Jai Parkash Gupta, got 26948 votes in a 17cornered contest.
Counting of votes in Karnal constituency began at 3:30 P.M
After repoll in four polling booths, ordered by the Election Commission in the wake of violence, was over at3 p.m.
The election in the three constituencies was countermanded following the death of one Independent contestant each before the general Assembly elections in the State in June last.
With today’s results, the strength of the Lok Dal (B)BJP alliance has gone up to 77 — Lok Dal 60 and BJP 17 — in the 90 ‘member State Assembly. The Congress (I) has five members, CPI and CPM one each besides six in Dependents in the House.
