FATEHGARH SABIB, Nov. 17, Reuter: The ‘Acting Sikh Head Priest resigned ‘on Tuesday, saying he was disgusted with Sikh political leaders in the North Indian state of Punjab.
Darshan Singh Ragi also told reporters after a meeting with top religious leaders in this Punjab town that he would lead a major march from Punjab to New Delhi ‘on December 4 to protest against the Indian government for injustices against Sikhs.
Ragi said he quit because he was disgusted that leaders of the moderate Akali Dal Party were only after power. The Akali Dal had been Punjab’s ruling Party till the Indian government imposed direct rule on the state last May, saying the party leaders had been unable to curb violence triggered by Sikh ‘campaign for an independent state Ragi, who had tried for months to unite a divided Sikh political establishment, said he was leading the protest march because “Sikhs are being subjected to torture and liquidation. Our holy places are being insulted every day. We have no freedom of life or political “action”.
