NEW DELHI: The Mizoram National Front (MNF) leader and former Chief Minister, Laldenga demanded the “removal” of the state governor, WS Sangma, describing his appointment as “unethical”, PTI reports.

Laldenga alleged at a press conference in New Delhi that the previous Congress I government at the centre had appointed Sangma to play a communal card.

Welcoming the formation of the new government, headed by VP Singh, the MNF leader urged the centre to implement the Mizoram accord, “in full”. The accord signed in 1986 between Mizoram and the center was implemented partly.

“While the MNF has religiously

implemented all the clauses of the accord to bring peace in Mizoram, the center has failed to do so,” he said.

Laldenga said he would meet the Prime Minister, Singh, and urged him to pay Rs 140 million as the “token compensation” to the people whose properties were destroyed in Mizoram during 1966 and 1986. He said the payment of compensation was a part of the accord and the amount was worked out by the planning commission.

The MNF leader said the implementation of the accord would also bridge the emotional gap between the people of Mizoram and the center.
