JALANDHAR: Simranjit Singh Maan, President of the Akali Dal (M) Party, that won the maximum number of seats in the general elections held last month, dissolved the working committee of the party.
Ina signed statement released to the press here; he said the new working committee of the party would be announced soon.
Some changes would also be brought about in the setup of district committees, the Akali leader said,
Mann has clarified, however that he stood committed to the recent decisions of the working committee meeting held at Amritsar. He said indiscipline would not be tolerated in the party.
He, however, clarified that there was no boycott in the Amritsar meeting and that all resolutions were adopted unanimously.
Setting at rest the controversy about the “real” Anandpur Sahib resolution, the Akali Dal President said his party stood for the resolution drafted by Kapur Singh and later approved by the Akali Dal Party.
He said that in the recent past, some Akali leaders “under pressure from the communists” had made some changes in the resolution.
Mann further said Akali Dal would continue its struggle for the achievement of that aim in its own way.
Baba Joginder Singh, who acted the party chief in the absence of Mann since its inception on May 1, 1985 was made “patron” of the party.
The party, in a resolution, described Bhai Jasbir Singh Rode as the real head priest of Akal Takht the highest Sikh religious body. It also described three other former priests, Bhai Savinder Singh, Bhai Jaswant singh and Bhai Kashmir Singh as real head priests of Anandpur Sahib, Damdama Sahib respectively. Kashmir Singh was appointed as the head granthi (priest) of the Akal Takht.
However, the party spokesman did not mention anything about the fifth head priest, Giani Pooran Singh of the Golden Temple.
