HYDERABAD: The Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, P. Upendra, has ordered lifting of an “unwritten” ban on certain political and film personalities from Doordarshan and All India Radio.

Replying to queries at a meet the press programme, organized by the Andhra Pradesh union of working journalists, Upendra said Doordarshan and Air officials had told him that the previous government had imposed the ban on certain political and film personalities including actors and actresses.

“I have instructed them to lift the ban immediately, as we will go by merit and not favor or oppose anybody,” he said.

Detailing steps of the proposed autonomy to the official administrative interference, however the government would ensure that the media did not fall into the hands of big industrialists, he added.
