GLENROCK NJ: Sikh Sangat from the tri state area thronged at the Sri Guru Singh Sabha here on November 25 to mark the 560 to mark the 560th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and to formally open the newly constructed Darbar Hall.

Shafts of sunlight brightened and highlighted the beauty of the hall which has been constructed by the sangat, since the old hall had been found to be somewhat constricting, given the dramatic increase in the Sikhs families who live in the area.

The Panj Piaras inaugurated the hall after an Ardas and the Kirtan was rendered by children as well as the Ragis. Siropas were bestowed on various members of the Sagat who had contributed in various ways in the construction of the Gurdwara.

The members of the construction committee who had performed outstanding contribution in the Darbar Hall’s construction were bestowed siropa’s by Bhai Charanjit singh Chari, the Granthi of the Gurdwara. Those who were bestowed siropa’s were Pritam Singh Grewal, Bhai Avtar Singh, J. B. Singh Parmar, Baldev Singh Buttar, Tejinder Singh, Charanjit Singh, Baldev Singh, Gurdev Singh, Gurpal Singh, Tarsem Singh, Charan Singh Kalsi, and Dhian Singh Nagi.

The architects of the Gurd wara S, and Sardarni Gajinder Singh were also bestowed Sir opas Harbhajan Singh president of the Sikh Youth of New Jersey spoke on Guru Nanak, Rajwant Singh of the Guru Gobind Singh Foundation addressed the need for greater participation in interfaith efforts and asked the Sangat to join him with Jakaras in support of those who are breaking the shack Jes of communism in the Iron Curtain countries.

Dr. Satwant Kaur Dhamoon the president of Sikh Women’s International Organization stressed on the need of parents speaking Punjabi at home so that the children speak it, She asked the women present in the hall to take a vow to speak only in Punjabi to their children and husbands so as to provide a better opportunity for the now generation to speak the mother tongue.

Bhai Avtar Singh spoke of how the community had grown in the last decade, He said he was very happy that the second phase of the Gurdwara was finished. The third phase would consist of the Gurdwara sangat becoming true Amrit dhari Sikhs, he added.

Dr. Gurcharan Singh, president of the Punjab Human Rights Organization addressed the sangat and highlighted the violation of human right violations in India.

Jagjit Singh Mangat the presi dent of the Sikh CulturaL Society congratulated the sangat of New Jersey and spoke of the contribu tion of Bhai Autar Singh and the Grewal family in the building of the Gurdwara. He also spoke of the role of the Society in various Sikh causes.

Ranbir Singh Bhalla addressed the sangat and recognized the positive contribution of Kamikar Singh Grewal the president of the Gurdwara. He also introduced Dr. Gurmeet Singh Aulakh who then addressed the sangat.

Kamikkar Singh Grewal, the president of the Gurdwara, was bestowed a siropa, on behalf of the board of trustees, in appreciation of his outstanding contribution in the construction of the Gurdwara hall. Ranbir Singh Bhalla addressed the san gat and recognized the positive contribution of Kamikkar Singh Grewal. He also introduced Dr. Gurmeet Singh Aulakh who then addressed the sangat.

Harbhajan Singh Gill, the vice president of the World Sikh Organization spoke to the sangat on the achievements of the WSO in getting legal aid to Sikh who were fleeing the persecution in India, a number of who were granted political asylum by the Immigration and Naturalization Service.
