NEW DELHI, India, Nov.27, and Reuter: Seven Indian peacekeeping troops were killed and five wounded when their patrol was fired on by Tamil rebels at Mullaittive in Northeastern Sri Lanka, Indian official sources said on Friday according to the Press Trust of India,
PTI quoted the sources as saying the troops were attacked by separatist guerrillas of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam while searching for weapons in the coastal town, guerrilla casualties in the subsequent exchange of fire were riot known, they added In Colombo, Indian and Sri Lankan officials said they had no information about the reported incident.
The Indian forces are in Sri Lanka under a July 29 peace accord aimed at ending four years of rebellion by the island’s minority Tamils
All the Tamil militants except the Tigers have accepted the ac cord, but the Tigers are fighting on, Defence Minister K.C. Pant told Parliament on Thursday the Indian force had so far suffered 1,200 casualties including 262 killed in the operation.
