LANSING: Scholars from England, Canada, Newziland and states of California, Missouri, Minnipolis took part in the conference of the Sikh diaspora at University of Michigan on December 12 and 13, 1986. Over 56 delegates from the Midwest area attended the conference,
‘Two officers of the Indian Embassy were also there to inform their government about the conference. Conference was a great success. Following points were stressed in the end:
* solve the Punjab problem initiative should come from the Indian government.
* Indian government should allow western journalists to visit Punjab for reporting the Punjab situation.
* Sikhs in Europe and America should educate the westerners about their religion, politcs.etc.to get media support.
Sikhs in Europe and Am should strengthen their organizations.
Carl Hutter, Director of South East Studies of University of Michigan expressed thanks to the Sikh Studies Association for the establishment of Sikh Studies Programme at the University of Michigan. He also thanked the Sikhs ‘who came from far to attend the programme and the speakers
