KUALA LUMPUR, Dec.1, Reuters, Malaysia: At least five people were killed and more than’ 13,000 others were evacuated from their homes when floods hit northeast Malaysia over the weekend, officials said today.
A spokesman for the National Flood Operations Centre said four people drowned in Kelantan state and 4,500 evacuated. In the state of Terengganu, where 8,900 people were evacuated, one person died and another is missing.
Relief officials expect more flooding in the two states as heavy rain is forecast for the next 36 hours.
