NEW DELHI, India: Shoot at sight orders were issued following arson, loot and clashes in certain areas of Darjeeling District of the Indian State of West Bengal, says a report reaching here today.

‘The report, quoting official sources said more than 35 houses were burnt down in the outskirts of Darjeeling town since Thursday.

‘Among them 20 houses belonged to CPI (M’s) supporters while nine were owned by the Gurkha National Liberation Front act visits.

Many families left their homes in Phulbazar area of the District apprehending widespread violence. Some of them have arrived in Darjeeling town in search of shelter after their houses were burnt as a sequel to GNLFCPM Clashes.

‘The GNLEF has called upon the people in the Darjeeling hill areas not to celebrate Diwali as a mark of respect to those who laid down their lives in the Gurkhaland Movement.
