NEW DELHI, India: The United Akali Dal has decided to raise a “Guru’s army” to fight what it said were injustices ‘being done to the Sikhs.

This was announced by Dal’s acting convenor, Baba Joginder ‘Singh, father of the late Jarnail ‘Singh Bhindranwale, while speaking at “Paschatap Divas” observed to atone for the “failure of the Sikhs to defend their Gurdwaras from Desecration by the armies and security forces from time to time”.

Baba Joginder Singh said that the need for the Guru’s army had arisen from the “unabated atrocities” being committed against the Sikhs, the continuing encounters and detention of Sikh youths and the punishment being meted out to army deserters. He lamented that no action had bent taken against those found guilty of the riots in November, 1984

The congregation adopted various resolutions including one calling upon the Sikhs to prepare for a “fight to the finish” to safeguard their rights.

The United Akali Dal secretary alleged that the government had seized 178 trucks and rounded up 269 activists of the Dal, the All India Sikh Student Federation and the Damdami Taksal to prevent them from attending the atonement day function in the Dewan hall of Mani Sahib in the Golden Temple complex.
