NEW DELHI, Reuter: More than 200 people have died in floods and heavy monsoon storms in the South India, State of Andhra Pradesh in the last three weeks, the Press Trust of India (PTI) news agency reported today.

It said rescuers recovered 15 bodies from areas on the bank of the rain-swollen Godavari River.

The worst affected area was the east Godavari River District – where at least 54 people have been drowned in the floods or crushed to death when huts collapsed during storms, PTI Rescue teams used military helicopters and naval vessels to search for survivors of the floods which have swept away several villages and affected nearly 100,000 – people.
