NEW DELHI, India: India’s boycott of the commonwealth games has angered one of the country’s top spoor officials.
The Press Trust of India says S.K. Roy, head of India’s commonwealth games team, has resigned from the Indian Olympic association to show his opposition to the boycott.
The news agency reports, Roy has also requested the boycott be debated by India’s Olympic General Assembly when it meets next
Month. Roy is quoted as saying that he has no words of solace for the games participants and doesn’t know how to console them for their lost hopes and dreams.
India ended a week of suspense by joining the widening boycott of the Edinburgh Games to protest Britain’s opposition to economic sanctions against South Africa,
So far 27 of 49 commonwealth members have announced their decision to stay away.
