NEW DELHI: Janata Dal appealed to the Hindu fundamentalist organization ‘Viswa Hindu Parishad’ (VHP) to put off its proposed “Shilanyas” (foundation stone laying ceremony) on November 9 to give “citizen efforts a change to solve the vexed problem or alternatively await a court decision,” reports PTI.
“While the Hindu sentiment to have a temple dedicated to Lord Rama in Ayodhya should be respected pending decision by the court or any solution of mutual agreement, no act should be undertaken that would cause apprehension in the mind of the Muslims that there is a design to demolish the mosque,” 2 resolution adopted by the party’s central parliamentary board said.
The party accused the ruling Congress (1) of playing “‘a diabolical game” for its own political ends and asked the government to clarify whether it had sanctioned any site plans.
“The ruling party is guilty of dereliction of duty by taking ambiguous positions on such a sensitive issue which has contributed to the present agonizing situation,” the resolution said.
The Hindu and the Muslim fundamentalist elements have been fighting for supremacy over a place of worship at Ayodhya, the first place of Lord Rama in northern India.
