Toronto: Two Members of Parli ament in Canada Jim Karpoff and Joy Langan have urged the govt. to open an immigration office in Punjab.
Over the last number of months it has become obvious that there is an increasing problem in the New Delhi Immigration office. The Su trey immigration office has even posted notices saying that no response can be expected from New Delhi for at least 9 months,
We have therefore written to the Minister responsible for Immigration demanding that she establish an immigration and visa office in the Punjab, the MPS, added. The MLP:S. said, we also have had the opportunity to speak in the House of Commons on multiculturalism and race relations, At that time I was able to remind Canadians that the Sikh Community in Canada is very strong and hardworking community, dedicated to improving not only their lives but the lives of the total Canadian population.
We reminded people that Canada has not always treated minorities fairly and pointed out the incident of the Komagata Maru as a shameful page in Canadian history. We will continue in the future to raise issues important to the Sikh community and will continue to work for resolving problems of concern to Sikhs.
