Los Angeles: The senior members of the Sikh community have started participation in the political social and educational fields in U.S.A. The recent attempt is being made by Dr. Harbans Singh Sraon, who is amongst the six persons, who signed up to fill up two seats of the Irvine Unified School Board in Los Angeles area, Although there are six candidates including Dr. Singh and a Romanian, but actually only, five are serious contestants. The election will take place on November 7, 1989 for which hectic electioneering is in progress. Dr Sraon is a very respected intellectual member of the ‘Sikh community. He got a doctorate in Bio chemistry and Genetics and has been teaching at North Western Missouri State University for sometime. He has authored numerous research papers in his field and has been a consultant to the national academy of Sciences Washington. Dr. Sraon is at present Director of Finances of the World Sikh organization (USA), He has also been actively involved with several Human Rights Organizations including Amnesty International. Being a committee member a Gur Sikh, he is highly respected in the community circles.
