KANSAS CITY: The declaration had a positive reaction among Sikhsin North America. The meeting of Sept 2, was a good success because it accomplished a common agenda and plan to work together, and it identified 6 major areas of work and recognized the organizations working in that field,

Dr. G.S. Aulakh representative of Council of Khalistan who is running an: Office in Washington and World Sikh Organization for working at the grass roots level with various legislature, were recognized and appreciated. It was decided that both of these areas an office in Washington and working at the local constituent level of convincing the political leadership of this country, should be supported.

Second issue, was the work of the Human Rights in which Sikh Human Rights Groups was also recognized. Guru Gobind Singh Foundation was praised for doing the work in the area of Interfaith relations.

The report of this meeting bas ‘been given in local gurdwaras which has generated a very positive feeling everywhere.

Dr. Balwant S. Hansra, a member of the coordination panel, said “Sikhs in Chicago have received this very positively and I feel very encouraged.”

S.Kuldeep Singh of Toledo Ohio said, “I could not go to the meeting but what I heard is very good. I had sent my input of forming a loosely knit coordination committee and I am glad that this committee was formed and we will support that.”

Dr. Manohar S. Grewal, president elect of WSO said, “Now we have to implement this declaration. I truly believe this is the only way of working together and to make sure of not doing reparative work. We will work with any organization which is for the fulfillments of our goal.”

Dr. Rajwant Singh, member coordination panel said, “reaction in Washington is very positive. Our organization is committed to this declaration. We will continue to support any person or organization which is working for the community, even though we might differ on certain issues.”

Sukhdey Singh Sekhon from Montreal who is active in Sikh Human Rights Group said that, “we have been waiting for this kind of unity and we will support each other’s work. We have to ignore certain deficiencies in each other and forget the past.”

Dr. Gurcharan Singh, Sikh Heritage Foundation in New York said, “by coordinating our efforts we can get optimism results we have to start thinking positively and ignore negative things about each other.”
