WSN Bureau LUCKNOW: Holding Rajiv Gandhi of being guilty of “defending arms agents” Janata Dal president Vishwanth Pratap Singh charged him of demoralizing the army by attacking the former chief of the army staff, Gen K. Sundarji.
The Janata Dal leader was talking to newsmen here on Sept 9 on his return from a three day tour of Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Singh said that Gandhi had been charging the opposition with demoralizing the armed forces but the fact was just the opposite. He, through his actions, had been demoralizing the Army and his latest act of assailing Gen Sundarji, for having nailed his lies over the Bofors gun deal had further demoralized the armed forces, Singh asserted.
The lies had been exposed first by the C.A.G. and then by Gen Sundarji, Singh said urging the people, “not to condone the deeds” of Gandhi who had been playing with security of the country and effects of arms agents.” “He has not been acting as a Prime Minister of a country but as an agent of the arms agents” he added.
The Prime Minister was “interested in the security of agents and therefore, had refused to put pressure on the Bofors for revealing the recipients of the kickbacks.”
Singh condemned the threat heId out against the General for what had been described as a violation of the Official Secret Acts. The threat had been held out despite the Prime Minister telling blatant lies to the people and the Parliament and endangering the security of the country.”
“This was not the only crime of the Prime Minister, Singh said, adding that he had been messing up everything. “Punjab was burning Kashmir was following suit. No positive effort had been made to improve relations with Pakistan. Even the relations with Nepal had been soured and the SAARC crippled. A stupendous price had been paid for stupidity of sending forces to Sri Lanka.
