NEW DELHI: Balbir Singh tormer Sub Inspector of the Delhi police acquitted by the Supreme Court last year in the Indira Gandhi assassination case has moved the Delhi High Court for payment of Rs 52.83 lakh as damages for his “malicious prosecution and victimization” in the case.
The suit filed on August 2 by his counsel R.M. Tewari was listed before the High Court Registrar S.C. Jain who issued notices to the respondents, the Delhi Administration and the Assistant Commissioner of Police Mr, R.P Kochchar to file their reply on September 26.
The former sub inspector filed the suit in form pauperis (as a pauper) as an indigent person application (IPA). He said he was unable to pay the court fees of Rs 53,096 for the suit. In his petition he stated that he was incarcerated in the death cell for four years “where every day was like an year. an year whose days were very long.”
