NEW DELHI— A general body meeting of the Sikh Lawyers Association with Tirlock Singh Grewal in the chair considered the situation arising out the amendments to the Representation of People Act and decided that no amendment to the constitution of the Akali Dal be made because the ‘same had not been asked for by the amended provisions.

The meeting said that the Akali factions should be asked to apply for registration with the Election Commission as required by amended provisions along with a declaration as required under Section 29A. No amendment to the original constitution of the Akali Dal should be made because it satisfied the principals of Socialism, secularism and democracy. The constitution of the Akali Dal was in no ‘way against the unity and integrity of the country.
