NEW YORK: A committee lead by S. Jagjit Singh Mangat as the president was unanimously elected to serve the Sikh Cultural Society, Richmond Hill, on August 6, S. Jatinder Singh Sabarwal is the new Vice President. He replaces S. Rabinder Singh Bhamra who is now a member of the board of trustees.

S.Pargat Singh Mathru will continue as the Secretary of the Gurdwara.

S.Harpreet Singh Toor who was the Library incharge will be the new Treasurer. He replaces S. Manjit Singh Shukla.

S.Devinder Singh Saini will continue as the Assistant Treasurer.

S.Harbans Singh, a trustee is the new Langar incharge. He replaces S. Sham Singh Blah.

S.Gurcharan Singh will continue as the Building Incharge. S. Satinden, Pal Sethi will be the new librarian,

In his annual report S. Jagjit Singh Mangat referred to the courses on Sikh relations at Columbia University offered in Spring 1989 under the sponsorship of Sikh Cultural! Society which is being taught by Prof. Gurinder Singh.

Mann and the first ever Sikh seminar held in March this year. A book of the papers published in the seminar will be available by the end of 1989, he added.

He referred to the Congressman Wally Herger being honored on July 9 by the society and the World Sikh Organization and the Societies support to human rights activists like Justice Ajit Singh Bains, Balbir Singh Brar and Dr. Iqbal Singh.

The Barsakhi Day Parade on April 22 was attended by 13,00 people from the tri state region and various parts of America and Canada, he reported The society has also bought a house at the back of the Gurdwara for $176,000 in order to expand the facility,

Magat also informed the Sangat of the latest developments in the extradition case of Sukhminder Singh and Ranjit Singh and the major role of the society in providing defense in the case.

He also referred to the universe in the morning and evening daily diwans, Langar was being served on weekday evenings to 150 people. On weekends the number is much more. He also expressed his thanks to the outgoing committee members.
