By A Staff Reporter ROPAR: ”Migrant labour is spreading leprosy in Punjab.”

This was stated by Dr. HS. Anja Deputy Director, Health Department Punjab while addressing public meeting at Chamkaur Sahai 20 km from here on July 29.

Dr, Aneja said that in the fifties incidence of leprosy in the state is almost nil but at present of a total

3200 leprosy patients, 900 were Punjabis.

He advised the people to immediately report cases of leprosy to their respective civil hospitals. This disease was curable and medical care free of cost was given by the government.

Dr. Bachitar Singh Joint Director of the department said Punjab is far behind as far as the health pregnant women and children were concerned. The majority of women the state were anemic and need special treatment.

There was a proposal to recognize certain private hospitals in the country to enable government employers getting treatment there to get medical reimbursement.

S.R, Gurg Additional Deputy Commissioner assured the health authorities of full cooperation in implementation of various programmes.
