LUDHIANA: The Punjab Human Rights Organization has denied its association with the recent Akali move aimed at organizational restructuring.

PHRO governing council meeting chaired by Mohinder Singh Jawandha passes a resolution expressing its surprise at a newspaper report that its representatives had been nominated at a so called Panthic Unity Committee formed by the Mann group of the Akali Dal.

The resolution said PHRO was a nonpolitical organization which was raising its voice against Human Rights abuses. Its constitution provided for an open membership, irrespective of considerations of caste religion or nationality.

‘There is a specific bar on members of political parties occupying PHRO offices, it said. The governing council also specified that Inderjit Singh Desi, claiming to be a PHRO nominee on the Akali committee was not even an ordinary member.

The governing council reiterated its stand that most existing political instructions including traditional leaders had become redundant in the context of finding a political solution on the Pubjab problem. No amount of the shuffling of the failed leaders could offer a way out, the council added.
