YUBA CITY: The Sikhs of Yuba City extended an impressive support to the World Sikh News at the promotional function held at Y.M.C.A Hall on Sunday last. The function was preceded by a delectable Punjabi cultural program presented by a new upcoming female artist Mrs. Poonam of Sacramento. After the variety entertainment S. Didar Singh Bains, welcoming the guests, appealed to the Sikhs to make a united bid in making World Sikh News a true representative newspaper of the Sikhs. He paid rich compliments to the president of the WSN Dr. Gurinder Singh Grewal for providing an opportunity to the Sikhs to enlighten the world about the atrocities being committed by the Indian government against the Sikhs. He also lauded Dr. Grewal’s sacrifices for the Sikh cause. S. Bains especially thanked S. Dilbagh Singh Bains and S, Gumman Singh Pamma for their efforts to make this function a success.
Dr. Gurinder Singh Grewal president WSN pointed out that Sikh slavery in India was chiefly on account of the lamentable negligence on the part of the Sikhs in not developing their own media. He also traced the development of newspaper from eight pages to its present size, He thanked the local organizers especially S. Didar Singh Bains and S. Dilbagh Singh Bains, S. Gurnman Singh Pamma, for organizing this promotional function to strengthen the voice of Sikh community thru WSN. Some prominent promoters of Yuba City were honored by presenting appreciation plagues. They included the management of Gurdwara Sahib Live Oak thru its President Sohan Singh and Secretary S. Parkash Singh Sahi, S. Gurpal Singh Bains, Mata Amar Kaur Bains, Mrs. Janie Poonia, S. Didar Singh Bains, S. Chain Singh Chera, S. Paramjit Singh and Sarbjit Singh Johl, S. Harbans Singh and S.Gurnam and Gurnman Singh Pamma, S. Malkiat Singh and S. Piara Singh Gosal, S. Jaswant Singh Bains, S. Iqbal Singh Dhillon, S. Dilbagh and Singh Bains. (They donated one thousand or more to WSN.)
Also honored were S. Jagtar Singh Gill, S. Rajinder Singh Chohan, S. Parkash Singh Sahi, S. Gurmej Singh and Gurjant S. Gill and S. Ajit Singh Nagra. S. Harbhahjan Singh Sandhu. S. Dilbagh Singh Dale and S. Hardev Singh Thiara were not present to receive their plagues, (they donated $500 or more individually to the WSN).
On behalf of Yuba City Sikhs, S. Gurpal Singh Bains presented a plague to Dr. Gurinder Singh Grewal in recognition of his services to the Sikh community. S. Amrik Singh Gill, the editor of WSN was also present on the occasion.
Later the guests were entertained with dinner.
