PATIALA: The Election Commission of India has asked The Shiromani Akali Dal (Mann faction) to seek fresh registration with the Commission after inserting a provision in their party constitution that the party would bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of India and to the principles of socialism, secularism and democracy and would uphold the sovereignty unity and integrity of India.
The Secretary General of the party, Charanjit Singh Walia, has also been asked to submit with the application for registration as a political party a copy of the memorandum of rules, list of office-bearers. Any change in the list of office bearers must be intimated to the Commission.
At present, there are four Akali dals in Punjab, namely the Shiromani Akali Dal headed by Sunjit Singh Barnala, the Shiromani Akali Dal headed by Simranjit Singh Mann (acting President Baba Joginder Singh) the Shiromant Akali Dal headed by Jagdev Singh Talwandi and the Shiromani Akal Dal (Pheruman).
