LONDON: Amnesty International said today that two of its researchers had been refused a visa to visit Punjab, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh for “discussion on human rights protection.”

Amnesty International had sought permission for its delegates to visit Punjab to meet officials in the Home Ministry and civil liberties lawyers in the five States.

India has removed restrictions on visits of foreigners to Punjab without special permits but says it cannot allow investigation by foreign organizations into its domestic affairs.
