NEW DELHI: Ground work for the 8th Asian Track and Field Mect to be held here from November 14 to 19, has been started, The first meeting of the organizing committee was held at National Stadium here to discuss at length the various organization aspects of the Meet. The meeting was attended by Lt Governor Mr. Romesh Bhandari, the police Commissioner Mr. Vijay Karan, Mr. Randhir Singh, Secretary General of the Indian Olympic Association, and the officials of the Amateur Athletics Federation of India (AFI).
Briefing newspersons about the deliberations of the meeting AAFI President, Suresh Katmadi said that the marathon is back in the Asian Meet. The event was not held in the last meet at Singapore while Delhi’s Asha Aggarwal had won the gold in the event at the 1985 Asian Mect in Jakarta Mr. Kalmadi said that the AAFI secretary Lalit Bhanot and Mr. Umrao Singh, chairman of the organizing committee had recently visited Singapore and had sought the approval of AAAA after meeting its secretary Mr. Maurice Nicholas of Singapore, He said the event will be held on November 19.
Mr, Kalmadai said that the biennial congress council meeting of AAAA will also beheld in New Delhi on November 12 and 13. The AFI chiefsaid that AAA has also proposed tohold a judges seminar and another seminar in sports administration at the time of the meet.
PERMIT MEET
The third IAAF Permit Meet will be held at Jawaharlal Nehra Stadium on September 16 and 17. Mr. Kalmadi said that the meet will be entitled Jawaharlal Nehru Centenary International Athletics Meet.
