From News Dispaches NEW DELHI: The Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi has approved appointment of Heeralal Devpura as the president of the Rajasthan PCC. A formal announcement to this effect is expected soon.
Two or three followers of the dissident leader, Nawal Kishore Sharama, MP are also expected to be accommodated in the state Cabinet. Devpura a dissident so far had given a commitment to the AICC coordination committee for Rajasthan that he would work in harmony with the chief Minister S.C. Mathur and the PCC and state ministry would function cohesively till the general elections, Devpura number two in the Hari deo Joshi Ministry succeeds Ashok Gehlot MP as the PCC chief.
Kamala Beniwal another former minister will inducted into the Cabinet along with some others. Benipura was one of the aspirants for the post of PCC chief. By the inclusion of Mrs. Beniwal a Jat, the Congress (I) it appears wishes to nullify the impact of Mrs. Deepa Kaur’s having joined the Janata Dal. Mrs. Deepa Kaur is the daughter of Raja Man Singh who was shot dead by the police during electioneering in March 1985.
Mathur had to step down following the killing of Raja Man Singh and the Jats had openly resented his reappointment as Chief Minister in 1987.
