NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday accused the Centre of dragging its feet on some bold initiative for Punjab solution before the Lok Sabha elections.
The BJP general secretary Krishanlal Sharma said here in a statement that recent moves by the Cabinet Subcommittee on Punjab and failure of the Government at the Centre to curb terrorism in Punjab indicated that the policy on Punjab was dominated by their election oriented decisions which resulted in halfhearted actions.
Expressing concern over the resumed spurt of violence in Punjab during the last week in which a Punjab CPIM leader Dalip Singh and six of his family members were killed the statement said that the happenings in Punjab betrayed a total collapse of the State Administration and the Government’s failure to protect the life and property of law abiding citizens.
Sharma said that lack of willingness on the part of the Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi to convene an all-party meeting with a concrete agenda illustrated how the serious Punjab problem was going to be linked with the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.
He warned, that there would be serious complications if the Punjab. issue was politicized with electoral considerations as the problem had gone much beyond such considerations.
