ISLAMABAD: The Prime MiniStet Benazir Bhutto dismissed Gen Hamid Gul Chief of Inter Services Intelligence and has replaced him by Gen, Sramas Uddin Kaluas the new head of Inter services Gen Shamas Uddin retered General ‘was a strong opponent of Gen Zia and was loyal to her father.
This bold decision was disclosed by the Prime Minister at the Islamabad Airport before leaving for tour of Turkey. Looking to Gen Hamid Gul’s strong position it was assumed that she will not
touch him for the present.
Islamic democratic alliance has strongly criticized and opposed this step of the P.M. and has
alleged that PM has taken this step only to appease India. India has been alleging since long that Gen Hamid Gul is helping the Sikh Freedom Fighters. It was also alleged by India that Gen Hamid Gul is at the back of the spurt in violence in Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir. This sudden decision immediately after the departure of the Indian Interior minister lead to suspect that this step has been taken on the request of India.
Prime Ministers step of dismissal of Gen Hamid Gul is facing criticism by the man in the street. Pak Press has opposed it and have written editorials condemning it.
