BOMBAY: Janata Party leader Syed Shahabuddin, MP, has called for a third front, other than the Congress (I), and the Janata Dal, to bring about social change and development in the country.

Addressing a party worker’s convention here on Thursday, Syed Shahabuddin said that the Congress (I) has failed to resolve any of the burning issues confronting the nation, while the Janata Dal comprises of the disgruntled elements of the Congress (I).

The need of the hour is a total change in policies and programmes which neither the Congress (I)

nor the Janata Dal could provide, said Syed Shahabuddin. Touching upon some of the issues challenging the country, he said that the government is deliberately delaying a solution to the controversial Ram Jamabhoomi-Babri Masjid problem like the Punjab and Jammu and’ Kashmir issues.

Janata Party national secretary Subramaniam Swamy aserted that while it is necessary that Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi must go the Janata Dal is also no alternative since it has persons like V.C. Shukla, Maneka Gandhi and Arun Nehru in its fold.
