LUDHIANA: The Janata Dal President V.P. Singh has assured the Punjabis that the Janata Dal is committed to giving top priority to Solving the Punjab problem if voted to power.

He sent his message to the convention organized by Coordination Committee on Punjab here on April 23 to find a solution to the Punjab problems. Leaders of various political parties also participated.

NSS. Gill a former Deputy Speaker brought the message of V.P. Singh and read it at the convention.

Expressing his concern over the situation in the State the Janata Dal President observed that the tragedy of Punjab “which is one of the saddest chapters of our history is a tale of blunders.” Harassment of innocent people by the police itself had increased. To detract public attention from other major issues facing the nation such as unemployment, steep rise in prices and corruption in higher levels, the present rulers were interested in delaying the solution of the Punjab. problem, he said.

He said: “the Janata Dal does not live for anything else than the welfare of India.”

V.P. Sing appealed to all Punjabis to unite and create an atmosphere of love, peace and prosperity for the unity and integrity of the country.

Bhai Darsharn Singh, also in a message to the convention called upon the intelligencia to adopt a common programme so that blood of innocent people was stopped from spilling.

Originally the organizers had announced that Bhai Darshan Singh would inaugurate the convention. But he left for Amritsar yesterday.

Similarly the eminent lawyer Ram Jethmalani was supposed to participate in the convention but he did not tum up.

District Youth Congress Committee (I) workers held a demonstration against the conversion.

(Talwandi) defended the Anandpur Sahib resolution and assailed the Prime Minister for playing the Sikh card. He said the Central Government had launched a tirade against the Sikhs and was maligning them through the official media.

Rajinder Puri, a journalist from Delhi pleaded for Hindu Sikh unity and fight for Punjab’s interests. Unless this was done there would be no solution to the problem.

Justice Ajit Singh Bains, a former Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, and President Punjab Human Rights Organization, said that as many as 15,000 Sikh leaders and youths p were languishing in jails in the country.

He condemned the Central government for implicating Simranjit Singh Mann art others in the “larger conspiracy case.

Kirpal Singh, President, Punjab Janata Dal appealed to the Hindus to own the Punjabi language.
