DAR ES SALAAM, Reuter, Oct. 10: Nobel peace prize winner Mother Teresa has arrived in Tanzania for a weeklong visit to three homes run by het order of the missionaries of charity.
‘On Sunday the Albanian born nun, who runs centers for destitute in Calcutta, will attend a consecration ceremony for seven sisters of charity in the central town of Tabora, 600 km (375 miles) from Dar Es Salaam.
In a statement on her arrival yesterday, the 76yearold nun said she was impressed by young ‘Tanzanian girls “giving up voluntarily the glories of the world to serve the poor and the hungry”.
Mother Teresa, who earlier visited Khar town, expressed concern over the situation in southern Sudan, where up to two million people face starvation as a result of the ‘war between rebels and government forces.
She said the missionaries of charity would soon open a center in Sudan to help victims of the three year old conflict.
