CHANDIGARH India: Thousands of Sikhs devotees completed the roof work of the ‘Akal Takht basement gallery on August 30, The reconstruction of the Akal Takht was started nearly eight months earlier and the work pace remained quite slow. The task of completing the roof work of the basement was accomplished by Damdami Taksal with the cooperation of Sant Baba Jegtar Singh, Baba Darshan Singh, Baba Uttam Singh, Baba Diwan Singh, Baba Mihan Singh and Baba Gurdip Singh. After a long interval, a large gathering of Sikhs was seen in the Golden Temple, Sikhs had come from the villages in over two hundred trucks, Sikhs kept reaching till noon. The next phase of the construction will now be taken up, The task of reconstruction was started in January by Damdami Taksal in cooperation with widely respected Sant’s. The new Akal Takht will have five storey.
The police circles appeared to be quite worried during the roof work completion and there was considerable activity in its rank and file It is learnt from reliable sources that police tried to arrest members of the Five Member Committee and the Damdami Taksal appointed acting Chief of Akal Takht, Jathedar Gurbachan Singh Mino chail but did not succeed. Jathedar Minochail who carries a reward of one lakh on his head, took part in the Kar Sewa in disguise and then disappeared, Police remained vigilant throughout the day but failed to arrest him.
