CHANDIGARH: The resignation of Gurcharan Singh Tohra ‘which was presented to the SGPC has been accepted by the executive committee announcement to this effect was made by a spokesman of the Akali Dal, yesterday. The meeting was attended by fourteen members of the executive, The Punjab Chief Minister, Mr. Surjt Singh Barnala, who is also Akali Dal chief was also present by a special invitation, Mr. Gurcharan Singh Tohra submitted his resignation on February 16 at the Anandpur Sahib Sarbat Khalsa convened by Akali Dal Longowal. Much significance is being attached in political circles to the Barnala Balwant group in accepting the resignation. There is considerable resentment in the group headed by Mr. Gurcharan Singh Tohra within the Akali Dal Board, In reply to a question a few days ago, Mr. Gurcharan Sigh had observed, “Any person who talks of the glory of the Sikhs will not be spared by the Central Government and the Hindu dominated press. All these years Centre has been trying to break and destroy the Akali Dal. Certain elements were working in Delhi to force the State Government to send police into the Golden Temple so that the Centre could justify operation Blue Star.”
