DHAKA: Ousted Bangladesh president H M Ershad and his family including wife and son were Dec 12 put under protective detention for public order and safety, it was officially announced here. Making the announcement to pressmen, home secretary Azimuddin Ahmed said law will take its own course but no charges have been framed against General Ershad yet. Asked about impounding of passports, Mr Ahmed said passports became automatically invalid since he ceased to hold the official position.
The former president who relinquished power Dec 13 last was taken along with his wife Begum Raushan Ershad and six-year old son Saad Ershad.
