SRINAGAR: Twenty five people including 22 militants were killed, have been killed in the Kashmir valley Dec 4 overnight Monday.
In other incidents, the chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir legislative council, Hakim Hababullah escaped when militant fired at him and hurled a bomb at his home Monday evening, official reports here Tuesday said.
Twenty two militants were killed in a shootout with security forces in the curfew bound five km belt in frontier district of Kupwara Tuesday, a police spokesman told reporters.
An official spokesman said a large quantity of arms and ammunition, including 21 AK47 assault Tifles, were recovered by the security forces after the encounter.
The spokesman said’ a group of 23 infiltrators, who were trying to sneak into Indian terrory, were sighted Tuesday morning by security forces who were fired upon by the morning by security forces who were fired upon by the secessionists when challenged.
Twenty militants were killed in the return fire.
Twenty one men, including a top activist were arrested while a militant sponsored closure paralysed normal life in the valley on Dec 6.
An official spokesman said 19 militants and a top activist of a militant outfit, were arrested on Thursday. Two were arrested on Wednesday.
Seven men were rounded up in Srinagar, six each in the border district of Baramulla and Badgam, the spokesman said. One militant was arrested in the frontier district of Kupwara and a kingpin of “al Burg” militant outfit was arrested in Srinagar on Wednesday.
Normal life came to a standstill in Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir valley Thursday following a 41-hour strike called by separatist Kashmiri militants to mourn the death of 22 men, killed in an encounter with security forces in the frontier district of Kupwara on Dec 4.
Shops, business establishments including banks and government offices closed and transport went off the roads well before the 1430 hours local time, when the strike began.
