CHANDIGARH: At least 22 persons were injured, six of them seriously, in two bomb blasts at the Central Club and the prestigious Chandigarh Club.
According to PTI, 40 persons were injured.
The seriously injured persons were identified as Rakesh Joshi, and advocate of Sector 8C;Iqbal Singh Kohli, a retired Income Tax Officer, Chandi Prashad, Sita Kam, Surjit Singh and Charan Dass, all waiters at the Chandigarh club. All of them were admitted to the PGI. Doctors said they were out of danger.
According to Mr Sudhir Mohan, the blasts took place almost simultaneously around 8:15 p.m. He added the explosives had “time devices”.
The explosion at the Club in Sector 9 was so powerful that not only windowpanes but also doors and other electric fittings were damaged.
Pieces of broken windowpanes littered all rooms in the club.
The explosion at Chandigarh Club was equally powerful. Doors, windows and electric fittings were totally damaged. The plaster of the ceiling also came off as a result of the explosion.
Mr Vijay Jhanji, President of the Chandigarh Club, said the loss would have been far more if the blast had taken place after 7 p.m. when there is great rush.
