NEW DELHI: For the first time India has made a formal bid to stage the Champions Trophy hockey tournament at New Delhi.
A message in this regard has been sent by the Indian Hockey Federation president R. Prasad, to the Federation of International Hockey (FIH),
India has made the bid since Teressa (Spain) has expressed its inability to hold the 13th edition of the championship.
The decision for the 1991 championship will be taken at the FIH meeting at Brussels on October 18, where the body’s elections will also take place.
‘The championship this year is being held at Melbourne in Australia in November,
India is not participating in the tournament this year as only the top six teams in the world can take part in it.
India did not qualify for the championship for 1991 also but if it is able to host the championship it will automatically qualify to participate.
