SRINAGAR: Militants made an abortive attempt to blow up a government building occupied by paramilitary forces and clashed with security men in four places in the Kashmir valley, leaving one of them killed and six others, including four security men injured. ‘Over the week 41 persons were killed in the state.

Thirty one militants were arrested from different parts of the valley along with a huge quantity of arms and ammunition during past 24 hours, an official spokesman said Monday evening.

He said four security personnel sustained injuries when militants hurled a bomb at their vehicle in the city Monday afternoon.

A militant was killed and two persons were injured when security forces opened fire after they were attacked by militants at Kanhama Beerwah in Badgam district, police said. 

The clash between militants and security forces also took place at TikruPinjoora near Shopian in Pulwama district and at Kathi Darwaza near Rainawari. No one was injured.

Militants fired three rockets at the excise department building at Rambagh, presently occupied by paramilitary forces, though the rockets did not hit the target it damaged one of the pillars of the Rambagh Bridge, connecting the city with airport and Badgam district.

Of the 31 militants 16 were arrested in Pulwama district Monday, while seven in Anantnag and four in Badgam were arrested on Sunday, the spokesman said.
