NEW DELHI: Delhi police Wednesday announced the arrest of two Sikh youths, who were allegedly involved in the August 14 grenade explosion near a temple in northwest Delhi, which left five people dead and 19 others injured, reports PTI.
Deputy Commissioner of police (crime) R Tewari told a press conference that the two were arrested in the Indian capital after a dramatic shootout on Tuesday.
He said that after careful investigations the operation cell identified one of the persons involved in the blast as Amarjeet Singh alias Lovely, a local youth. Further investigations revealed that Amarjeet had joined the dreaded militant outfit, Bhindranwale Tigers of Khalistan Force (BTKF) (Sanga group), and was in the mand area of Punjab, he said.
A police party sent to Punjab found out that Amarjeet, along with an associate Sukhvinder Singh alias Sherry had left for Delhi and were planning to carry attacks during Diwali, he said.
On return a raiding party was organized, which succeeded in arresting the two in North Delhi despite the duo’s attempts to shoot their way out of the trap, he added.
