JAMMU: Four people, including three security men, were killed and three others injured in Kashmir, while security forces arrested 36 men in different areas on Oct 16.

An official spokesman said three security force personnel were killed and| three others suffered bullet injuries when militant attacked a patrol in Sangrama in Baramulla district from several directions Monday evening.

Twenty five shops and four residential houses, which caught fire as a result of the cross firing which ensued, were gutted, the spokesman said.

Security men cordoned off the entire area immediately and launched a search operation to apprehend the men who were believed hiding in the area.

The spokesman said the militants also attacked the town hall, industrial area and fired a rocket on the State Bank of India branch in Sopore town during the period.

However, no loss of life was reported. Miscreants hanged to death one person in Bunagam village Monday night, the spokesman said.

The security forces arrested eight Kashmiri youth in the Srinagar sector while they were proceeding to Pakistan occupied Kashmir (POK) to receive arms training. Twenty eight subversives were nabbed in one locality of Srinagar city since Monday night, the spokesman said.

Explosives weighing over 45 kg, Ak-47 magazines and ammunitions were recovered from them, the spokesman said.

However, another group who clashed with security forces near Sagam Bridge late Monday evening managed to escape under the cover of darkness,

The spokesman said the Hajam bridge in Baramulla district was gutted when subversives set it on fire during the intervening night of Oct 15 and 16.

Some militants hurled a grenade on the vehicle of security forces near Shalimar Garden, in which one person sustained minor injuries.

Militants attacked the security forces near Kaloosa Bridge Bandipur Monday evening. The security forces also returned the fire but no loss of life or injury was reported.

Some militants hurled a grenade on the picket of security forces near exchange road Baramulla Monday, which missed the target and hit a wooden wall of the hut.

During the night intervening Oct 15/16 a fire broke out in the presidential quarter of assistant engineer, water works, and another explosion took place in the building of agriculture department, at Fateh pura, Ganderbal causing some damage to both the buildings, Another fire gutted the residential house of Bansi Lal Hakoo in Gunctal Harwan.

An explosion Tuesday morning in the municipality sub-office housed in a private building at Shalyar in down town, Habbakadal locality caused minor damage.
