LOS ANGELES: The conference was held on Sept 8, 1990 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Sikh Gurdwara of Los Angeles, 7640 Lanker shim Blvd, North Hollywood, California.
It was sponsored by the Federation of Gurdwaras of Southern California, and hosted by the management of the Lankershim Gurdwara. It provided a forum for the youth children to give their input so as to increase their participation in the Gurdwaras. About 40 children made presentations in a relaxed environment in the presence of their parents and other adults listening to the children under the age of 10 years was specially delightful.
The consensus of the suggestions included outdoor activities such as youth camps, retreats, games and formation of peer groups. The highlights were prayer in English, teaching Punjabi language, Scriptures, and increased involvement of the younger generation in the Gurdwara services. Overall, the conference atmosphere was friendly, thought provoking, and educative. The participants characterized the conference as the first of its kind in Southern California. The enthusiasm shown by the children was overwhelming. During the panel discussion, the participants expressed an exuberant desire for a quick follow up meeting.
