Gonda DM and SSP transferred LUCKNOW: The summary transfer of the district magistrate and the senior superintendent of police of Gonda district, following communalists, has stunned senior police officers here who described the move as ham handed and bad for police morale.

The chief minister, Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav, announced that he had transferred the DM and the SSP and suspended the circle officer and SDM.

It is strange that though there have been at least a dozen riots since Mr Yadav took over as chief minister, in no other case where the DM and SSP removed.
