NEW DELHI: The Union government in an urgent communication to the Haryana govt is understood to have threatened to impose President’s rule in the state for its failure to effectively deal with the agitators who are disrupting essential supplies to the Capital.

The Centre is particularly exercised over the alarming fall in supply or water from Haryana to Delhi. It has been brought to the notice of the Haryana government that the continuing disruption of water supply might lead to epidemics in and around Delhi. There has been no improvement in water supply in spite of several urgent communications from the Union home ministry to the Haryana govt,

The situation was reviewed at a high level meeting here Sunday the Union govt is not left with no option but to intervene in a manner which would ensure maintenance of normal life in the nation’s capital.

The govt is also concerned about the disruption in the supply of petroleum products from the refineries in the neighboring states. The Capital is facing shortages of milk and other essential commodities owing to agitations launched by BKU to protest against the implementation of the Mandal Commission recommendations.

The Central govt is obviously taking a calculated risk to face the political fallout which would follow a decision to impose President’s rule in this most troubled state.
