NEW DELHI: At least five persons were killed and 25 injured when a powerful bomb exploded. Tuesday night near a temple in Lawrence Road area of north Delhi where Janamashtami celebrations were in progress, police said.

The injured have been admitted to the Bara Hindu Rao hospital, the Deendayal Upadhayaya hospital and the Sunder Lal Jain hospital.

“The toll is likely to up,” a senior police official said adding that the bomb was fitted with a timer.

The bomb exploded shortly before midnight in a park.

Two youths had placed a green bag near the temple a little before the blast occurred, according to a preliminary report.

One person who tried to raise an alarm when he saw the youth placing the bag, was stabbed by them. The report said.
